    POSITION SUMMARY:

     

    The Paint Department Supervisor develops, directs, coordinates and is responsible for operational and maintenance activities of the painting system, paint line employees, and processes.

    Responsibilities

    SPECIFIC & ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

    • Confers with management personnel to establish and develop operating parameters and controls. Ensures the systems, processes, controls, and efficiency conform to established requirements
    • Develop and implement paint production, performance and maintenance activities to meet quality, throughput, cost, safety and environmental standards.
    • Investigates root cause of operating problems to develop and implement permanent corrective actions
    • Coordinates with off shift technicians and employees those activities required to maintain a smooth flow of operations and activities
    • Consults with suppliers, industry and appropriate department personnel relative to modification of equipment in order to improve throughput, efficiency, reduce the cost of operation, and quality of painted products
    • Create, issue and review the area's procedures, policies and operating methods. Reviews and refines as necessary
    • Coordinates day-to-day activities of the areas employees to ensure compliance, maintenance and operating efficiency of the paint system
    • Report any quality, safety or compliance risks to appropriate plant management
    • Develop, train and direct personnel to insure that proper monitoring, cleaning and maintenance schedules are followed and performed within the entire department
    • Develops or revises standard operational and working practices and procedures to ensure compliance with standards and requirements
    • Manage and support all lean company initiatives including leadership, daily huddles, problem solving, waste identification and elimination and employee involvement
    • Develop and train employees to ensure the team is a cross functionally skilled group capable of working in any of the paint process (loading, small parts, plugging, painting and unloading)
    • Job requires filling in and being able to do all jobs within the department. Depending on PTO and hiring situations, expected to be an active part of the team at times. Must be able to drive a fork truck
    • Responsible for compliance with all applicable Environmental, Health and Safety policies/procedures, State and local government laws and ordinances
    • Responsible for disciplinary actions and resolving worker grievances when appropriate and within established guidelines working with the HR team
    • Conduct regular, timely performance reviews and feedback meetings with employees

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

    • Two year degree from a technical school or equivalent experience
    • 5-7 years’ experience in managing a production powder paint line and related processes
    • Strong leadership skills
    • Strong environmental/regulatory knowledge
    • Strong program development skills
    • Strong root cause evaluation skills

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

     

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.     WORK ENVIRONMENT:

     

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
